Harrison at Twenty-Nine Weeks

Monday, July 29, 2013

I think we are finally figuring out sleep in this house! It's so hard to pinpoint the reason but he has randomly started sleeping SO WELL. We moved into our new home and his sleep was terrible.  Then I changed a few things and it went from awful to amazing in one day.   We dropped his third nap since he was only taking it some days anyways, we started bathing him in our bedtime routine (before it was harder to get access to the tub every day), I started feeding him about double the baby food every day and we finally had him in his own room instead of with us.  He slept 11 hours straight last night and his naps have been hours long today! He hasn't really slept more than 45 minutes at a time for naps in MONTHS.  And he doesn't really cry anymore to sleep - he does an initial huge cry for 5 seconds when we lay him down (I can't even believe he does that anymore - he acts like it's some big surprise that he has to go to bed even though we've been doing this for months!) and then turns his head and falls asleep.  I think it has also helped that we have one blanket we use for him every night so a lot of the time he calms down as soon as I put it over him.  *Knock on Wood* I know as soon as I post this it will all turn into terrible sleeping again but it sure seems to be taking a good turn finally.

He's also making leaps and bounds in eating this week - we had started giving him puffs and he is able to grab them and feed himself almost every time now. He ROCKS the pincer grasp.  He very rarely gags on it and it seems to be only when it gets stuck to the roof of his mouth.  He is a crazy eater - as soon as the spoon is out of his mouth he's whining for more. You'd better be ready with another spoonful as fast as you can or he gets upset.  It doesn't seem to matter if I've just fed him milk or not - he acts like he hasn't eaten in days.  We're feeding him about 1 1/2 or 2 larger containers of gerber baby food twice a day now.  I usually do one container of veggies or meat meal and one container of fruit.  I either feed him the veggies first or and then do the fruit as kind of a treat (he's obsessed) or switch off every bite. I sometimes let him do the spoon but I'm having a really hard time being ok with the baby food mess and the staining. He's actually a really clean eater and never spits anything out so I am pretty good at keeping him clean and it is kind of hard for me to let him go and get all messy.  I know I should just get used to it.  He LOVES our mesh feeder with bananas too.  He sucks it down so fast! We haven't tried other fruit in there yet.  Oh and he's allergic to peaches we think - he pukes every time we have fed him peaches.  And we're avoiding bananas because of the constipation.  He loves pear, pineapple, apple, sweet potato and is ok with chicken noodle, sweet potato/corn, carrots, green beans, etc. We have tried a lot of stuff.

He still could care less about rolling over and scooting.  For some reason he will scoot and get on his knees but only on our bed.  He still scoots on his back but idk if he really 'gets' that he's moving - it's more like he thinks its fun to lift his bum up.  Oh and he's started scooting in circles while sitting. He spins right around and reaches so far forward too.  Sometimes I think he'll never roll and crawl!

He is obsessed with the bath.  I think he could play in there for hours. He loves water and splashing and his bath toys.  As soon as I turn on a faucet he calms down and gets so excited.  I love my little water baby! I can't wait to take him to the beach!

See - Tiny Goosebumps

Thursday, July 25, 2013

We give 'nicies' in our family (lightly running your fingertips over someone's back or arms). I was giving Harrison nicies and noticed that he got tiny little goosebumps everywhere. They were SO small and adorable!

We got a few warm things for this Fall. They are still pretty big on him but he looked so adorable in this jacket and sweater.

Harrison got to hang out tonight with my lil brother, Hunter.  I loved seeing him snuggled in Hunter's arms watching the water at the Pier.

Harrison at Twenty-Eight Weeks

Monday, July 22, 2013

Harrison is such a fantastic eater! He loves pretty much all baby food now and is eating more and more each day.  We tried puffs this week - he did pretty well with them. He liked them a lot but gagged a few times so I think we'll wait a bit longer.  We also tried a mesh feeder and he LOVED it. I think he'll want to use this thing all day long. We also introduced a sippy cup this week and he loves it and holds it and sucks by himself.  We have to give him some prune juice diluted every day so that he stays more regular.

He loves clapping with us by holding our hands when we clap.  He loves to chew on any toys/water bottles/cords he finds - we're already having to keep him away from anything he could potentially reach.  I'm not ready for baby proofing! He loves when we sing to him and still doesn't like getting shirts put on.

He loves when Daddy beat-boxes and makes silly noises - loves being outside and LOVES water. He reaches for anything we're holding and has poured whole containers of water on himself when he's grabbed them out of my hands.  Silly boy. He gets jealous whenever we're eating and tries to get anything we have.  We are doing a bit of baby-led weaning because he seems to respond well to it.

He also loves any other babies and kids he sees.  Church is fun for him since he gets to play on the floor with other kids that are around his age.  I'm hoping they'll teach him a thing or two about rolling and crawling.  Oh well, he'll get there. He sits and leans over like a champ though and loves to stand still.

Our sleep has gotten tons better and most nights he sleeps for 8-9 hours before needing to eat and then goes back down for about 3-4 more hours. So 12 hours of sleep at night and then he naps about 2.5 hours during the day spread into 3 naps.

Love this boy. And we are so ready to close on our house on FRIDAY!

Notice the puff stuck to his side in the last image. This boy. I love him so much.

See - Lots of Boxes

Friday, July 19, 2013

We are packing, packing, packing around here. We close on our first home in one week! So excited and so much to do! I have found that Harrison plays nicely in a box full of toys that can't get pushed out of his reach.
(Photos taken outside because we currently reside in my parents' basement with almost no natural light.  The photographer in me CAN'T WAIT to be in a more normal environment soon!)

This is one of my new favorite images of Harrison. Abbott's at Charlotte Beach has this adorable blue door out back in the shade and he enjoyed a nice break from the heat.

After 3 photo sessions at 90 degrees in the hot humid weather, I was ready for a strawberry smoothie. Harrison promptly stole it from me.  We gave him little sips - he's finally figuring out how to suck from a straw!

Harrison at Twenty-Seven Weeks

Monday, July 15, 2013

This boy is a hoot! We love to make him laugh and play with him all day now. I am finding that it's so much easier to play with him and I don't get bored with it as quickly.  We are actually having FUN together and I love this new stage.  He is such a wiggle worm.  He squirms through every nursing session and I can't stand it! I know he's strong enough to scoot and roll but man as soon as he's on his back or stomach - he just stays put.  He wiggles and moves around when you're holding him or he's sitting, but does not care to learn on the floor!

He eats everything we give him now, which isn't a ton, but it's so funny to see him attack everything like we're starving him.  He gags on some kinds of bread when it sticks to the roof of his mouth, but if it's the right kind he just keeps eating it. We tried crackers today and he loved little bits of it and I'm so ready to not be so worried about him choking on a too big piece of food.  I can't wait til he's eating puffs and other finger foods.

I think he's thinning out now - at his most recent appointment he hadn't gained an ounce but had grown a half inch.  He seems a bit longer and leaner too.  It's so crazy how fast babies change.
