Create - Patio Table and Benches

Wednesday, May 28, 2014

With Memorial Day fast approaching, we were on the lookout for a patio set. We don't have much outdoor furniture and we needed something for a party we were throwing.  I suggested building something and Jesse said "go for it!" I found these plans for a patio table and benches from Ana White and spent the next 5 days cutting, sanding, staining, polying and assembling. I spent every nap and bedtime working on this project and was able to finish it in time for the party.  I love how they turned out, even though they are FAR from perfect.  I used Minwax's Dark Walnut stain and then applied poly so they were nice and glossy.  We found a great umbrella from Target and I just added a hole in the middle so we had some shade.

I have so many other projects in mind and can't wait to do more!

See - Garden Growing

Tuesday, May 27, 2014

I have been indulging lately in playing around with my Dad's saw and doing some wood projects.  I love it! We had fun making 3 raised bed gardens and filling them with veggies this week. I can't wait to see what we can grow!

Create - Toddler Picnic Table

Sunday, May 18, 2014

I have had so much fun lately working with wood. I decided to make this simple toddler picnic table (and made 2 more for gifts while I was at it) and it was so fun and easy.  I got the plans from the great Ana White and they are very basic and it's a great starter project.  Harrison loves to climb up and down off of it. AND I found this perfect clamp umbrella from Target for some much needed shade.  Such a satisfying project!

See - A New Haircut and A New Slide

Thursday, May 8, 2014

This boy sure is getting big and turning into such a fun person to play with. He LOVES being outside, so we spend a lot of the day running around out in the yard. We got him a big slide, which he loves, and hopefully we can get a few more things to make our empty yard more fun.

I haven't been documenting much of his growth since he turned one.  I just kind of decided to not do monthly posts - but I still want to remember what this age was like!

He is now 16 months old and is around 25lbs and 33inches. He's 95th for height and 50th for weight.  He is a tall, lean boy and we are so glad he's healthy and growing well.  He is loving most foods and has just started to be picky sometimes.  We have reintroduced milk and he seems to have grown out of his allergy.  I'm still nervous about giving him straight up regular milk, but he's loving anything creamy or cheesy lately. We are glad and grateful that we can share so many more foods with him now! And he LOVES cheese.

He is a big talker and it is so fun - it makes him seem like a real person!
He says:
bubbles (it sounds almost perfect - bubbuhss)
banana (nana)
uh oh
the end

He loves making sounds like a monkey, dog and elephant, and likes to point out our nose.  We need to start working with him on these, we haven't done it too much with him yet. He loves reading and brings books to us all the time. He also loves blowing bubbles and playing with sticks, brooms, etc.  He does not like the lawn mower!

He is finally a good sleeper and has been for the past few months. I am not ready to go back to newborn sleep! Harrison is sleeping about 8pm to 7:30/8am and takes 1.5-2hr nap around noon. Some days he needs a small second nap but most of the time he's great with one.  I am so grateful for the sleep I've been able to enjoy lately and I am soaking it in!
