Porter at Six Weeks

Friday, October 31, 2014

Porter is sleeping great now that he's got his swaddle.  We have 4 of them and they are constantly being washed because he's always spitting up all over them. I can't wait until that's over! I think Harrison stopped spitting up around 4 months. We are counting the days.

If I'm lucky, Porter will wake up between take his first 'nap' around 10 or 11am and will half wake up for a feed around 1 but otherwise sleep from morning til around 3 in the afternoon. So nice when Harrison goes down at 1 and I have some time to myself to work and clean the house and maybe even shower! And the whole time I'm crossing my fingers and tiptoeing around the house.

Porter still seems mostly unhappy while he's up. He goes from screaming to smiling and back again within minutes.  We will hopefully figure him out soon. I wouldn't go as far as to say he is colicy, but he just doesn't seem happy. Just grateful he's not crying round the clock like some babies.

As you can see, he's inherited my crazy eyebrows! Harrison did the same thing at this age and it's hilarious to watch!

Porter at Five Weeks

Harrison love love loves his brother.  He always wants to be where Porter is, which can be hard when P is trying to sleep.  He loves to give lots of kisses right on the mouth - I'm sure we'll just be passing around illnesses soon!

We started using swaddleme wraps on Porter and it has helped his sleep issues a TON. He no longer wakes after 10-15 minutes and instead sleeps for hours at a time.  So nice! I wish we'd have had them with Harrison! I don't know why there's that much of a difference between a blanket swaddle and these velcro wraps, but apparently it means everything to Porter. He fights it for a minute but then settles right down.

Nursing is going well and he's taking bottles from Dad like a champ.  I've been really busy with photography sessions and Jesse has been handling the boys for the hours I'm away. I know it's so hard to handle them for hours at a time, but Jesse is doing great at it and I'm so grateful that he's here and that I can get away and work and bring in a little extra money for us.  I still hate pumping though!

Porter is starting to be more and more pukey so I think we are going to need to up his dose soon because I'm guessing he's grown out of the dose he's on. We'll see if he can make it to his next appointment.

See - Chatting with Dad

We call Jesse at least once a day to chat. Harrison has gotten really good at blabbing on and on with him. Today we were video chatting, but Harrison grabbed the phone and ran off to talk like he normally does, so Jesse had to talk to him while staring at Harrison's ear.

I don't think it's supposed to bend that far...

How NOT To Take Your Own Family Portraits

Monday, October 20, 2014

Step 1: In an attempt to have a baby that's a little more alert as well as giving yourself enough time to lose a little bit of baby weight, put the photos off until mid-October when the weather is wet and freezing.

Step 2 : Make sure to not get out the outfits until that day, then realize things need to be laundered. Then while laundering, make sure to forget to lower the lid on the washer so they sit soaking instead of getting washed, putting everything an hour later than planned.

Step 3 : Definitely, definitely do photos on a day when your toddler randomly refuses to nap for the first time in his life. This will make it so fun to try to get him dressed in multiple layers and out the door in a timely manner.

Step 4 : Drive a half hour to the location of your choice while the toddler whines and the newborn screams the whole way.  This will make both parents nice and agitated.

Step 5 : Get to the location and set up only to realize your camera remote is randomly refusing to not work. And definitely don't have a back-up plan or anyone around to help.

Step 6 : Decide to do the ridiculous but only option - use the 10 second timer and run back and forth and try to get into place in time. This results in several of these blurry shots because you were trying to be fast and didn't double check the focus point.

Step 7 : After realizing this and a half hour has passed, and the sun is going down quickly, finally decide to shoot ones of mom and toddler separate from dad and newborn and then combine later in photoshop.

Step 8 : Spend lots of time in photoshop combining 4 photos to get the best shot of each of us and end up with one good not awful family photo.

Step 9 : Snap a few more random ones to have more to show for the whole ordeal.
