First bike ride for Porter! They did great and Harrison didn't even try to hurt Porter, instead he held his hand and kissed him repeatedly.  Ok, there was one bite too.

Harrison thought it was so relaxing, he had to kick off his shoes and stick his feet out to feel the breeze.

Summertime in Raleigh

Saturday, May 30, 2015

We have fallen hard and fast for this amazing city in the (almost) 2 months that we have been here.   We have tried hard to get out and about as much as we can - both to get to know the area and also because our small, dark apartment can get cramped with 2 wild little boys.  We have gotten to see so many fun things so far and we are so excited to continue our exploration throughout the summer.

I have made summer bucket lists in the past, but we have never really ended up doing them.  I know this year will be different now that we have a 2.5 year old who is always up for fun.  He is finally old enough to really enjoy getting out and doing stuff and exploring.  I am so excited to do as many things on this list as I can in the next few months with my boys.

I found some bigger activities like driving the 2-3 hours to the beach and spending the day, and some smaller things, like doing a toy car wash outside.  I found a lot these ideas on Pinterest, but some were from some of my favorite blogs.  Janssen recently made a list of 10 inexpensive things to do with your family, and I have been fascinated by my cousin Tausha's geocaching with her daughter, Presley. I can't wait to try it with Harrison.  Presley and Harrison are (2nd)cousin-twins - born on the same day only hours apart.  :)

Soccer Practice

^^Taking a break from eating grass.

^^Learning to Head the ball.

^^Getting closer and closer to crawling!

We spent the evening playing soccer and frisbee at a local field.  We had a lot of fun running around - I've never seen Harrison so involved in what we're doing and he just kept running and kicking.  It was really hot and humid outside and we were all pretty red-faced by the end, but it felt great!

This little one ^^ is starting to get CURLS in his beautiful hair.  He has fine, smooth hair like the Steele side of the family, but he has some curls in there. They come out when he's sweaty mostly. I really hope he ends up with Jesse's curly hair.

I tried to take some photos of him to show the hair, and 2 seconds into it, Harrison yelled "ant ant!" and I realized that my legs were swarmed with little ants as I knelt to take the photos.  So this is the best I got.

This may be the most decent photo of myself I have from the past few years - and I still don't love it. Self portraits are hard.  I wanted to show off my hair - although this photo doesn't really show you very well how it looks.  I finally got my pixie trimmed up and got an undercut too! It's a bit edgy but kind of fun and I can part my hair the other way to be more conservative if I want.

(An undercut is when you trim a section of hair very very short, but leave the rest longer.  I have the back of my hair buzzed - just the lowest inch or so, because that hair is always really annoying for me on my neck because I have a funny hairline. The rest of the hair on the back of my head hangs over it, so you really can't even see it.  I also have a few inches on the side of my head buzzed. It can be seen better here.)

I loved having my sister and her friend here this weekend so we could get some cool portraits and play around with photography.  Tonight we did sparklers and long exposures - it was a blast!
